Hello Pip and Pawn backers,
I hope you’ve all enjoyed your copy of Pip and Pawn. If for any reason you haven’t gotten one, let me know.
As you may remember, last update I linked a poll asking your opinion on future This and That topics. The clear winner was Paw and Whiskerwith an average rating of 4.0. Thus, I’m excited to announce that Paw in Whiskerwill be the next book in the series, with a Kickstarter campaign launching September 9th.
To make sure you don’t miss it, you can sign up for launch alerts on the Kickstarter prelaunch page.

Hello Pip and Pawn Backers!
Pip and Pawn is now live! You should have gotten an email from DriveThruRPG with a link to your copy of the book. If your pledge included multiple systems or add-ons those should be in separate emails.
If you did not get an email, let me know and we’ll figure it out.
Future of This and That
I plan to launch another Kickstarter for the next This and That sometime this summer, and I’m curious to hear what topics interest people. I’ve created a quick Google Form where you can rate several ideas. It should only take a minute or two to fill out, and helps us put out books that you’re interested in.
Thanks,
Matthew
May Update

Hello Pip and Pawn Backers,
The books are nearly ready. D&D and Savage Worlds are basically done, and we’re just doing a final proofread on the Pathfinder version. Once we’ve got that done, I’ll send things out.
There are still a few of you who have not filled out your Backer Kit surveys. This is especially important if you only backed for one system since it’s how I know which system to send you.
Looking Ahead
As work on Pip and Pawn wraps up, I’m looking ahead to the next to the next book in the This and That series. I’ve got a list of ideas, but I’m always curious what readers think. If you have an idea for a book you’d like to see in the line, leave a comment below!

Hello Pip and Pawn Backers,
Sorry it’s been a while since I updated. Things are going well on Pip and Pawn. The D&D version is complete and we’re hard at work on Pathfinder and Savage Worlds versions. I think all the books should be released by the end of the month.
Back Kit Survey Coming Soon
Backer Kit Surveys should come out sometime later this week. These are especially important to fill out if your pledge only includes one system, since this is how you choose your system. Watch your in box for that.
I’ll send another quick update when the surveys are out.
For now I’ll leave you with an illustration from the book.

Last Day & Final Preview!
– Wed, Feb 19, 2025 at 08:09:23 AM
Today is the last day of the This and That Kickstarter campaign. Pledges are picking up steam, and I think there’s still hope of reaching our final stretch goal, but it will probably come down to the wire.
Final Preview - Card Throw
Ever want to create a player character based on Gambit from the X-Men? Or maybe just a gambling wizard? Well, we have the cantrip for you! For this one, not only is the character throwing cards, the player is too.
For those of you who play Savage Worlds, we’re replacing this with optional rules about using cards to determine damage instead of dice, since throwing deadly cards is just trappings on bolt.
Card Throw
Cantrip Evocation
Casting Time: One action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a deck of playing cards, which is consumed after casting the spell 52 times)
Duration: Instantaneous
Classes: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
You charge a card with arcane energy and hurl it at your opponent. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. If you hit, you deal damage based on a card the player draws. Using a standard 52 card deck. Damage equals the value printed on the card; aces deal one damage; redraw (or preemptively remove) jacks, queens, and kings. The damage type is determined by the suit: clubs deal bludgeoning, diamonds deal cold, hearts deal fire, and spades deal slashing.
The spell allows you to throw more cards as you reach higher levels: two cards at 5th level, three cards at 11th level, and four cards at 17th level. You can aim the cards at the same target or at different ones. Make a separate attack roll for each card.
If you don’t care too much about balance, instead of discarding them you can allow jacks, queens, and kings to deal 11, 12, and 13 respectively. This allows card throw deals more damage than any other cantrip, but also it’s cool. Using this variation you can reduce the range to 30 ft to make other cantrips still appealing.
Have You Considered an Add-On?
For those who are new to Sneak Attack Press, we’ve got a bunch of our previous crowdfunded products as add-ons. If you add them during the campaign, you’ll not only get cool books, you’ll also push us closer to our stretch goal.
Add-ons will be available afterwards through Back Kit, but they won’t count to the stretch goal at that point.
That’s all for now. I’ll check in again later tonight after the campaign ends.
