Hello Pip and Pawn Backers,
We now have just one week left in our Kickstarter campaign, and we’re slowly closing in on the second book Stretch Goal. It looks like it will probably come down to the wire.
Queen of Hearts
For the monsters in This and That, I take inspiration from many sources, including myth, classic tropes, and things that I just make up. In Pip and Pawn, I also take some inspiration from classic literature, specifically Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Here’s the D&D 5e version.

Bloody Rage
When Bloodied (97 HP) the queen flies into a rage. She gains resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, she has Advantage on Strength checks and Strength Saving Throws, and her damage she deals is doubled (noted below).
Magic Resistance
The Queen of Hearts has Advantage on saving throws against spells.
Off With Their Heads!
All allies within 60 feet of the queen who can hear her add 1d4 to their attack rolls.
Actions
Multiattack. The Queen makes one worpal-ish sword and one flamingo attack.
Vorpal-ish Sword. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) slashing damage or 15 (2d8 + 6) slashing damage when Bloodied. A target who takes damage must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. If they fail their head is severed from their body. This does not kill them, but it certainly makes life difficult. The head must verbally give commands to the body to get it to do anything, and any d20 Tests taken by the body suffer Disadvantage. The target can negate the disadvantage by placing the head on their neck and holding it in place, but this requires a hand to do so.
A severed head can be permanently reattached with greater restoration, regenerate, heal, or similar magic. If the head is not reattached within 24 hours, the target dies.
Flamingo. Melee Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft. one target. Hit: (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage or 15 (2d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage while Bloodied, and she pushes the target 10 feet.
Hedgehog. Ranged Attack:+7 to hit, range 20/60 ft. one target. 6 (Hit 1d6 + 3) piercing damage or 13 (2d6 + 6) piercing damage while Bloodied.
Reaction
Defend Me. Trigger:A creature targets the queen with a melee or ranged attack. Response:The attack instead targets an ally of the queen within 5 feet of her.
That’s all for now. See you next week!
